Getting the Nokia 770 online using Cingular by tethering to your phone

If you have a Cingular cell phone with Bluetooth, you can use it as a modem to allow the Nokia 770 to get online. If you have EDGE connectivity, do the following:

Go to Apps/Tools/Connection Manager

In the Connection Manager Menu, select Tools/Connectivity

Press "Connections"

Either create a New Connection or edit your current "Cingular Internet" connection. Using "Packet data", click Next. Type the following settings:

Access point name: wap.cingular
Dial-up number: *99#
User name: WAP.CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1

That's it. Click Finish. Warning: you might want to get the $20 unlimited data plan offered by Cingular, as they charge $.01/KB of data. Also, tethering this device might be in violation of your service agreement, although the Cingular rep at the store I purchased the plan from said this was fine.

First, let's talk peripherals.

If you haven't yet, I'd highly recommend buying one of these reduced size MMC cards, so you can boot from MMC and have plenty of space for data. This will also give you an easy way to revert to the untouched system.

You may also want to purchase a bluetooth GPS unit (I have instructions on this below):

Garmin GPS10 (sensor only) @ 118.62 shipped, the Deluo GPS @ 112.72 shipped, or the Deluo GPS with DVD @ 114.76. I've heard good things about both of these, but for your own peace of mind, as they are somewhat expensive (although about the lowest prices you'll find for this quality) buying from Amazon makes returns relatively painless. If you want a cheaper option, Geeks.com has some great prices on two units.

And if you want to connect USB devices to the 770, like a keyboard or storage device (external drive, memory stick, etc), follow my directions here.
